The magnificent church of St James was originally part of a 12th century Benedictine priory, dissolved in 1539, with a tower and spire rebuilt in the 18th century following the collapse of the original. The impressive nave with its massive pillars is lit by large Decorated windows. Relics from the original foundation include a large font and, in the chancel, two round-headed windows and the remains of stalls for the monks.
