Festival of Thought - ADULT WRITING COMPETITION

As part of Stamford Welland Academy’s inaugural ‘Festival of Thought’ we warmly invite adult writers to enter their writing competition.

Theme: The Power of Thought.
Any writing form – short story/ poetry etc.
1000 words max.

Entry Deadline: 22nd June 2018

Prizes:

  • 1 st - Pitch to a Publisher!
  • 2 nd – Writing feedback from James Hazel.
  • Runners Up – Signed books. 

All entrants are welcomed to join the public event – ‘Publishing Secrets Workshop’ hosted by the judges - James and Linda. (Thursday 28 th June at SWA, 5-6pm, in the library)

Judges:

  • James Hazel:

Before turning his hand to writing, James Hazel was a lawyer in private practice specialising in corporate and commercial litigation and employment law. He was an equity partner in a regional law
firm and held a number of different department headships until he quit legal practice to pursue his dream of becoming an author. His debut novel, The Mayfly, was released last summer and has
been sold across 12 territories internationally. His second book, The Ash Doll , is out in September 2018. He has a keen interest in criminology and a passion for crime thrillers, indie music and
all things retro. James lives on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds with his wife and three children.

  • Linda Bennett:

Linda Bennett has worked in the bookselling and publishing industries since 1978 and has been a director of Salt Publishing, a small literary publisher whose authors have won many awards, since 2004. She has been a Salt editor since 2011. She is deeply involved in encouraging and promoting all the writers on Salt’s list, and Salt itself. She is always on the look-out for new writing talent. She runs writers’ workshops and is a frequent speaker at literary events in bookshops, libraries and at festivals. She is particularly interested in helping young people to write and to appreciate literature. She is also passionate about the public library service and a particular supporter of libraries that are struggling to stay open.
