Stamford's Poet Laureate

We are happy to unveil Stamford’s 2016/17 Poet Laureate as Camilla McLean!

Camilla took over from 2015/16 Poet Laureate, Rebecca Westwood, on May 5 and delivered her first official poem to mark the inauguration of Stamford’s mayor, John Dawson, who took over the role from Sue Sandall. Camilla said, “I love performing poetry and can’t wait to encourage others to step up and create their 


Speaking after the Verse Festival’s final show on Sunday, Karen Burrows, festival organiser and Event Administrator at Stamford Arts Centre, said:

“This year’s Verse Poetry Festival has been bigger and better than ever before. I am delighted with this year’s appointment of Camilla as the next Stamford Poet Laureate and cannot wait to see what wonderful ideas she has over the next year to further promote and inspire poetry in 

The Stamford Poet Laureate competition has been held annually since 2012 and the Poet Laureate’s role is to work with Stamford Arts Centre and within the community to identify opportunities to make poetry part of the life of the

Open Mic Poetry Evening 8pm

At 'Pint of Poetry' you can either come along with a poem you've written or want to perform and read it out to an appreciative crowd, or you can simply enjoy the poetry of others over a nice cold pint in our cellar bar.

Held every last Wednesday of the month at 8pm

Monday writing forum 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the Burley Room (Every second Monday.)

Our very chilled out Writing Forum takes place on the second Monday of every month upstairs at the Arts Centre. Join the discussion and share poetry, thoughts... and even the odd glass of wine.
